Disney’s Snow White is an Upcoming American Musical fantasy film
Disney’s Snow White is an upcoming American musical fantasy film directed by Marc Webb from a screenplay by Greta Gerwig and Erin Cressida Wilson. Produced by Walt Disney Pictures and Marc Platt Productions, it is a live-action remake of the Walt Disney Productions 1937 animated film Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, based on the Brothers Grimm’s 1812 fairy tale “Snow White.” The film stars Rachel Zegler as Snow White and Gal Gadot as the Evil Queen.
Plans for a remake of 1937’s Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs were confirmed in October 2016, with Wilson announced as screenwriter. Webb began negotiations to direct the film in May 2019 and was announced as director in September 2019. Filming primarily took place from March to July 2022 at Pinewood Studios in England, with additional filming taking place in June 2024. Pre-release controversies, the original film, were criticized against Zegler’s public disapproval for story changes and colorblind casting, as well as non-dwarf actors initially playing dwarves who were then suddenly replaced with CGI models of the original 1937 dwarves.
Snow White is scheduled for release in the US on March 21, 2025 by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures.

casting
In June 2021, Rachel Zegler was cast in the title role: in November, Gal Gadot was cast as the Evil Queen.[9] On December 7, 2021, in an interview with Extra, Segler revealed that Snow White will be “stronger” than the original. A new casting search was announced for a younger actress to play a younger version of Snow White in the live-action remake, and Emilia Faucher was cast. On January 12, 2022, it was announced that Andrew Burnap had been cast as a new character, Jonathan, to replace Prince in the lead male role. At the 2022 Denver Fan Expo, Martin Klebba revealed that he will be portraying Grumpy in the film; Klebba previously played similar dwarf roles in prequels based on the “Snow White” fairy tale: as Friday in the 2001 made-for-TV Snow White: The Fairest of Them All and as Butcher in the 2012 fantasy comedy Mirror Mirror. Colin Michael Carmichael appears in the film.
Filming
Snow White was originally scheduled to begin filming in March 2020 in Vancouver, British Columbia and Los Angeles, California, but was delayed until July 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. In August 2021, it was announced that filming would take place in the UK from March to July 2022. Principal photography began on March 7, 2022. A fire damaged the production set at Pinewood Studios on March 15; While the stage was being built, a tree caught fire and a huge fire broke out. A source at Disney confirmed that “no filming will take place.” The shooting schedule was rescheduled for Zegler to travel to Los Angeles to perform at the 94th Academy Awards on March 27. While Zegler was attending the event, Gadot began filming her scenes. In a podcast interview with Forbes, Gadot revealed that she will be singing and dancing in the film, something the character did not do in the original. On April 22, Gadot confirmed that she had finished filming her scenes and said that it was “fun and interesting” to play the first Disney villain in a long time, feeling that changing her voice allowed her to make the role more dramatic. The film is a musical. On July 13, Zegler revealed that filming had ended. Additional filming took place in June 2024.
